The Bride

… something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue…

The Bride is made of materials found from an old trosseau. Embroidered beddings made of linen and lace, handkerchieves decorated with monograms, towels and cloths in delicate drawnwork – belongings carefully crafted and collected by a bride for her marriage.

White – pure, luminous and innocent – the colour of maidenhood. The mythologized white dress, a ritual dress made for a magical rite of passage. Unique and ones own, worn just once. Just beautiful. The passage from one state to another makes the bride especially vulnerable. To dispel harmful forces she uses herbs and covers her face. A silver coin hidden in her left shoe as a warrant of wealth. The time borrowed, a light blue dream of a snowy winter eve.
